Daniel Murtagh has been found guilty of murdering his former partner Nadine Lott in Co. Wicklow in 2019.
The 34 year-old man from Bawnogue in Clondalkin Dublin had pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter.
Nadine was 30 years-old when she was killed at home in St. Mary's Court, Arklow.
The jury took five hours to reject the defence given from Murtagh that he was too intoxicated to have had the intent to murder Ms Lott.
He had claimed that he had consumed a shoulder of rum as well as two pills and a joint before assaulting Nadine. He also said that he had been on methadone in the three months leading up to her death.
Nadine sustained blunt trauma injuries from her attack, and she never regained consciousness. She passed away on 17 December 2019 at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin.
Mr Murtagh will be handed down a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment on October 4. He will remain in custody until this time.
After the guilty verdict was given, Nadine's family members stood outside the court wearing masks with her name printed on them.
