Ryan Tubridy may replace Joe Duffy on Liveline

Joe Duffy has confirmed he is stepping down from presenting RTÉ’s Liveline later this summer.

Joe’s final programme will air on Friday, June 27th.

The radio presenter confirmed he will be retiring after 37 years at RTÉ, and 27 years “at the helm of Liveline.”

Many popular presenters may take over the role, including former RTÉ star Ryan Tubridy.

Katie Hannon is the early odds-on favourite at 1/2 with BoyleSports to take over from Joe Duffy in the Liveline hotseat after the iconic presenter announced plans to hang up his mic after 37 years at the national broadcaster.

Other presenters in the running include Ryan Tubridy, Claire Byrne, and Jennifer Zamparelli.

Tubridy stands at 25/1.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin was quick to pay tribute to the outgoing RTÉ broadcaster on Thursday as he hailed Duffy as “an essential part of the national conversation” after it was revealed he intends to leave the airwaves for good on Friday, 27th June.

RTÉ has suggested a replacement will be confirmed in the autumn.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Joe Duffy’s departure marks the end of an era, and it’ll be fascinating to see who is charged with filling his shoes.

“He gave a platform to the Irish public for years, and we expect they’ll be eager to voice their opinion on who continues the legacy of Liveline.”
