Sinead O’Connor’s cause of death has been confirmed by the coroner
The singer, who died in July aged 56, was found unresponsive in her flat in the Herne Hill area of South West London last July.
At the time, no medical cause for her death was confirmed with the London Inner South Coroner’s Court saying O’Connor’s postmortem would be conducted and that the results could take several weeks.
Following news of her passing, the London Inner South Coroner directed that an autopsy be carried out, as there was no medical cause given.
They stated that at the time, the results of the post-mortem would not be available for some weeks and a decision would then be made if an inquest was needed.
The coroner has now confirmed that O’Connor died as a result of natural causes and has said that they will no longer be investigating her death.
A spokesperson for Southwark Coroner’s Court said: “This is to confirm that Ms O’Connor died of natural causes.
“The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death. Any further enquiries should be directed to the Registrar at Lambeth.
“No further comments will be made.”
In the immediate aftermath of her death, O’Connor’s family released a statement to RTE which read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead.
“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
Sinead O’Connor is survived by her three children. Her son, Shane, died in 2022 aged 17.
