Actor Christina Applegate has been hospitalised as she continues to live with multiple sclerosis (MS), according to reports.
Celebrity website TMZ reported that the star was hospitalised in Los Angeles late last month, though the reasons for her treatment remain unclear.
Back in 2021, Applegate revealed her MS diagnosis, however, it is unknown if her referral is related to the condition.
It comes not long after Applegate’s MeSsy podcast co-host, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, announced the show would be going on hiatus as both she and Applegate embarked on book tours.
A representative for Applegate told TMZ: "I have no comment whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She's had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast."
Christina Applegate (54) rose to fame through her role as Kelly Bundy in Married... With Children. She recently published her memoir You With the Sad Eyes, which details her daily struggles with MS, like how she struggles to "get my arm to move far enough to grab the cup of water by my bed or my phone from its charger" each morning.
In her memoir, she also recalls growing up in Los Angeles and watching her mum, actress Nancy Priddy, struggle with heroin addiction and multiple abusive partners.
She said: “My life isn’t wrapped up with a bow. People’s lives, sorry for lack of a better term, f***ing suck sometimes. So I’m being as honest and raw as I possibly can. We all have come from somewhere, some places more painful than others, and it’s what you do with it, I guess. This is not an inspirational book, by any means. But it can inspire.”
MS is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord and, unfortunately, has no cure, however treatments can often help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
Some of the most common symptoms include fatigue, blurred vision or eye pain, numbness or tingling in different parts of the body, dizziness, muscle cramps, spasms and stiffness, as well as problems with memory and concentration.
However, these symptoms could also be signs of other conditions, and people are urged to visit their GP if they are experiencing any of them.
Christina launches her MeSsy podcast in March 2024 after revealing her diagnosis in hopes of speaking more openly about her condition.
Back in December 2024, she explained the symptoms she began experiencing in 2019, which she had ignored. Referring to a time when she was filming the Dead to Me pilot, she said: “I remember falling that day... Hi, first sign of MS!”
Applegate wasn’t diagnosed until the filming of the show’s third and final season.
MS is not the only health challenge Applegate has faced. In 2008, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
