Changes will be made to the Child Benefit payment date
A warning has been shared with parents ahead of plans to pay Child Benefit at an earlier date in February.
The change is being introduced due to the February bank holiday.
St. Brigid’s Day is just weeks away with banks and post offices set to close for the bank holiday Monday.
Child Benefit payments are typically paid on the first Tuesday of every month, but it will be paid earlier due to the closure of post offices and banks.
Other social welfare payments will also be paid earlier.
It is understood that the payments will be made on January 31st or February 1st.
There’s no doubt the early payment will be welcomed by parents after the Christmas holidays.
The update comes after 700,000 families were given a double child benefit payment before Christmas.
This measure, introduced as part of Budget 2025, doubles the usual monthly child benefit payment from €140 per child to €280 per child.
Parents and guardians were also given another double payment on November 5th last year.
The payment is universal which means you can get it regardless of your income and social insurance (PRSI) record.
