Bundee Aki is waiting to meet his newborn baby as his wife, Kayla, gave birth in New Zealand two weeks ago.
The Connacht star is touring Australia with the British and Irish Lions, whilst his wife ended up giving birth in the car on the way to the hospital.
Unfortunately, Bundee couldn't be there on the day his wife gave birth, as the Irish rugby star was in Brisbane for the Lions' first Test against Australia. He revealed that they welcomed a girl named Aine.
Despite Kayla being past her due date, her birth came as a shock to Bundee. He was in the hotel with the other rugby stars when he received the joyful call.
He opened up about the moment in a post-match interview after the Lions' final test.
"The missus calls me and she's like, 'Water hasn't broken, but I'm going to the hospital, I'm feeling contractions.' I go, 'Yeah, fair enough,'" Bundee recalled during the interview.
"She goes to the hospital, we're getting ready for the team meeting pre-match, and then she calls me and says she's on the way to the hospital, so I said, 'Fine, be safe,'" he continued.
"Five minutes later, she sends a photo, her water broke. This is like 30 or 40 minutes away from the hospital. Ten minutes later, she video calls me and I was like, 'S**t, what's going on?'"
Bundee goes on to say how shocked he was to then see his little girl on the video call after Kayla gave birth on the way to the hospital.
"They're both strong and healthy, so happy days," Bundee said.
Bundee wrapped up the interview by gushing over his wife: "Credit to my wife. She's a powerful woman, a strong woman. I have to say it to her."
After being together for 10 years, Bundee and Kayla got married in 2018 and now share five kids, Armani-Jade, Adrianna, Andronicus, Ailbhe, and the most recent addition, baby Aine.
Bundee has since said he cannot wait to reunite with his family and meet his new baby girl, saying: "I want to enjoy my break, my family time. I haven’t seen my family for eight weeks. I have a newborn child who I haven’t met yet, so I’m looking forward to going and meeting (her)," per Evoke.
