Boston marathon victim to marry the firefighter that saved her life

It is the ultimate happy ending.

It is the ultimate happy ending.

But the beginning of Roseann Sdoia’s romance was anything but happy.

She was standing at the finish line waiting for her friend to finish the Boston Marathon in April 2013 when the blast ripped through the crowd.

She was thrown to the ground, sure that she was going to die.

One of the first emergency responders, Mike Materia, saw Roseann on the ground and carried her to the ambulance.

She told the New York Post:

“I asked him if I was going to die. And he told me that I was going to be Ok, that I only had a flesh wound”

The reality was that her leg was amputated later because of the extent of her injuries.

Mike came to check on her in the hospital and they slowly became friends – bound together by this tragic turn of events.

Their friendship blossomed into something more, and this Christmas Mike proposed to Roseann.

They hope to have a small ceremony in October and both say they feel blessed to have turned something so awful into something so special.
