The body of a Dublin man who was reported missing seven months ago has been found in Blackpool.

A nationwide search for 81-year-old Thomas Kennedy was launched last July when the Finglas man disappeared after putting the bins outside his home in the city.

Last month, Thomas’s wife Patricia told UTV Ireland that his wallet and phone were left behind in the house and she only discovered that he was gone after her grandson arrived at the house.

“We had our dinner and then we had a little bit of a roar and a shout at each other; I said right that’s it I’m off and I went upstairs,” said Mrs Kennedy.

“Ross came in from work at about 11pm. He came up the stairs and I said ‘make sure granddad takes his tablets’. He came up and he said ‘granddad is not down there.”

The pensioner’s body was this week recovered in Blackpool and his grandson Ross said that while they are devastated at the loss, the discovery will give them closure.

“It is not the outcome we wanted, but it is a relief. We can now carry out his final wishes.”
