A neighbour said they heard a “whomp” outside.
The body of a man who had stowed away in a plane bound for Heathrow landed in a garden one metre away from a sunbather.
The stowaway fell from the plane’s landing gear as it approached the London airport on Sunday afternoon.
His body was discovered by residents in a garden in Clapham, south London. The plane had been travelling from Nairobi, Kenya.
Sky News reports that a neighbour heard a “whomp” sound before looking out an upstairs window.
They reported seeing the body with “all of his clothes on and everything” before noticing that there was “blood all over the walls of the garden.”
“His head was not in a good way. I realised immediately that he had fallen,” said the man.
“So I went outside and it was just then the neighbour came out and he was very shaken. He had been sunbathing and he landed one metre away from him.”
The man added that the stowaway’s body was “intact” and like “an ice block.”
Another neighbour told The Sun that the impact of the body’s landing was so severe, that “nobody would have survived being hit.”
“There were a few of us in the house at the time and it was lucky only one of us was in the garden,” they said.
The stowaway is believed to have travelled the nine hour flight in the plane’s landing compartment. Food, water, and a bag were later found in the area.
The plane was at 3,500 feet when it flew over the garden.
Metropolitan Police are still trying to identify the man. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
