Well deserved, tbh.
Army veteran Tom Moore has been promoted to Colonel ahead of his 100th birthday.
The former Captain raised £30 million for the NHS earlier this month after walking 100 laps of his back garden.
Moore, who initially intended on raising £1,000 for the UK health service, was surprised when his fundraiser went viral, being picked up by national news outlets and shared far and wide across the globe.
Ahead of his birthday, the Queen approved Moore’s promotion by Chief of the General Staff General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith to the rank of honorary colonel of the Army Foundation College.
A Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast will also mark Colonel Moore’s birthday by travelling past his home.
Moore, who served in India and Burma during World War 2, previously told BBC News that he found it “almost unbelievable” when his fundraiser passed the £1 million mark.
“I do [laps] each day, so that eventually I’ll get to 100, then after that I shall continue and do some more,” he said
“When you think of who it is all for – all those brave and super doctors and nurses we have got – I think they deserve every penny, and I hope we get some more for them too.”
Over 140,00o people have sent Colonel Moore birthday cards ahead of his big day. The cards are currently on display in his grandson’s school.
