Looks like we could have another boxing star in our midst for the future…

It seems Ireland’s Olympic boxing success has rubbed off on us as many Irish start to take up the sport ourselves.

eBAY Ireland has reported a 76 per cent increase in the sale of boxing equipment since the Olympics, which only finished last week.

The sales of boxing boots have quadrupled in figures and there has been a 81 per cent rise in the sale of boxing gloves.

Budding Irish boxers are staying smart and safe as sales of the protective gear and head-guards are up 64 per cent.

eBay said they believe the increase in boxing gear us because of the recent gold medal success of Katie Taylor and the hundreds and thousands who tuned in to watch John Joe Nevin, Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon.

Are you ready for the ring?!

The news comes as Ireland’s gold medallist Katie Taylor debates her future in professional boxing. The fighter said she is waiting to what contracts she is offered before she makes the final decision on her career.

“Professional boxing is a very, very different sport to amateur,” Katie said.

“It’s 10 rounds for women and no headgear and smaller gloves. It’s very different. It’s a big decision. But any decision I do make, Pete is behind me.”

The golden girl spoke to Today FM as she travelled the country showing her medal to thousands and visiting the children at Crumlin Hospital.
