Ah Go On: Mrs Doyle Launches Her Own Range of Tea Cosies

Pauline McLynn has an interesting way to make some extra cash while she's between books/acting roles and, unsurprisingly, it involves tea...

Her

Mrs Doyle is back, and this time she’s bringing some tea cosies with her – just so you can keep your cup of tea nice and warm. Sure go on, go on, go on…

The Irish Daily Mail reports that Pauline McLynn, the actress who played Mrs Doyle in Father Ted, has just launched her own range of hand-knitted tea cosies called ‘Go Ons.’ Yes, we’re being serious. And do you want to know something else? One of Pauline’s Go Ons will set you back a cool €90. That’s an expensive cup of tea, right?

The actress, who has also written nine books, has turned to knitting in between books and roles, to help her through the hard times.

“It took me years to get a second string to my bow and times are hard in books, to get published. I am lucky I have been at it for 10 years,” said Pauline.

“Everyone was slagging the idea when I launched the Go Ons. For years I was trying to stress that I have done more than Mrs Doyle. That show was just wonderful but sometimes it is a double-edged sword. If I say: “I wish people wouldn’t shout at me”, I look like the most ungrateful wench,” she added.

But why tea cosies?

“I picked tea cosies because I really enjoy knitting. I make every bit of them myself although the labels are made in Co. Clare,” Pauline explained.

And as for the crazy price tag, Pauline claims it’s justified because “what you’re getting is unique. They can never be repeated. It takes me three to four hours to knit them.”

Eh…what do you think ladies? Would you spend €90 on a tea cosy?
