Aer Lingus has today confirmed that they have received another takeover offer from International Airlines Group (IAG).

The Irish airline has revealed that the parent company of British Airways has put forward an improved takeover offer for the company.

Aer Lingus stated it has received an offer of €2.55 per share and that they are considering the proposal.

The news was revealed during a statement to the Stock Exchange this morning.

The proposed bid values the airline at approximately €1.3 billion and if the deal goes ahead, the Government would receive about €308.6 million due to their 25% stake in the company.

Aer Lingus have already turned down two previous offers from IAG.

IAG previously took over Spanish airline Iberia with the loss of a number of jobs.

A number of people now fear that Aer Lingus could also be at risk of job losses if the proposed deal goes ahead, though this has not been confirmed.

An announcement on the deal is expected later today.
