Acid attack survivor shares first incredible pictures of her recovery

While celebrating her 21st birthday, Resham Khan suffered an acid attack.

The aspiring-model had been travelling through London with her cousin Jameel Muhktar when a man, John Tomlin, threw acid through their car window. The pair suffered severe burns to their faces and bodies. Muhktar later told Channel 4 News that he believed the attack to be a hate crime.

"If this was an Asian guy like myself going up to a couple in a car and acid attacking them, I know for a fact, and the whole country knows, that it would be classed as a terrorist attack."

Tomlin was caught and charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Khan and Muhktar both received skin grafts for their injuries. Immediately following the acid attack, Khan wrote on her blog that she was too scared to leave her home.

"Today I was too petrified to walk to my local shop. Too scared to face the world. Too scared of the looks I might get. Too scared to tackle the question 'how are you?'"

Khan has also taken to social media to set the record straight about the events of her 21st birthday. In a thread, she wrote that people shouldn't pay attention to sources that are inaccurately reporting the events. "I haven't done anything wrong. I won't be made to feel like I have.
