Earlier this week, the bodies of two elderly brothers were found in their Dublin home by Gardaí.
It’s thought that 76-year-old William McCarthy had been acting as a carer for his 73-year-old brother Daniel up until his death a few weeks ago.
Tragically, Daniel was unable to care for himself after his brother’s passing and reports suggest he passed away from malnourishment.
According to The Irish Mirror, Daniel wrote a note which was found in the house where Daniel wrote that William had been very ill and “he didn’t know what to do”.
William, who lived with Daniel at an address in Millrose Estate, Bluebell, Kilmainham, had not been seen in recent weeks and so the alarm was raised by neighbours earlier this week.
Although the brothers, who were both deaf, came from Dingle, Co. Kerry, they had made their home in Dublin for over 50 years.
Post-mortems conducted this week showed that both men passed away from natural causes.
