Anyone who has ever planned for, or been expecting, a child will recognise the all-too-familiar pressure of choosing the perfect name for their little one.
Agreeing on what to name your child is a major decision for many expectant parents. With everyone bringing their own tastes and preferences to the table, it’s natural that not every choice will be universally loved. Ultimately, though, it’s a decision for you and your partner to make together, choosing the name that feels right for your family.
Many (soon-to-be) parents have been sharing their ideas and inspiration on social media, hoping to offer a helping hand to others on the same journey.
First-time mum Clare is one of those voices offering support online, sharing content under the name It’s My Moon River, with a focus on “mum tok” inspiration and baby name ideas.
One of her recent videos has racked up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok.
In the caption, she explained: “A small selection of my favourite Irish girl names. Fiadh is actually very popular now, but I love it too much not to include! There are so many more beautiful names I could add here."
The clip further features seven “beautiful Irish names for girls”, which include:
People were quick to praise these beautiful names, with many revealing their children's names had been featured in Clare's list.
One person wrote: “I have a beautiful Fíadh and she was born on St Patrick’s Day just to make it even more Irish."
Another said: “I have a Fiadh and let me tell you she is wild as anything," with a third writing: “Fiadh and Cliodhna are my two FAVOURITE baby girl names. Love Oisin or Fionn for a boy."
A fourth shared: “I’ve a Fíadh & Èire. Always get compliments on Èire." Another added: “Irish names are beautiful. I do have Irish ancestry, gorgeous names."
