X Factor winner Leona Lewis has left Simon Cowell’s Syco label, which is part of Sony, after seven years.
The singer confirmed in a statement this week that she will be joining the likes of Nicki Minaj and Jessie J by signing a deal with Island Records.
She said: “After seven incredible years at Sony I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to sign to perhaps the most iconic label of all, Island Records.
“To me Island has always been a label where artists can really flourish and are encouraged to express themselves”.
Last night Simon tweeted: “Congratulations Leona. We had 7 great years together and now wish you all the best for the future. You put X Factor on the map. X”.
Since winning The X Factor in 2006, Leona has had a string of hits including Bleeding Love and Run as well as a number of award nominations.
