Turn Around! When The Hell Did This Happen?

Bonnie Tyler to represent the UK for the Eurovision?! Sorry, what now?

Sue Murphy

The hair comes out and the gloves come off. Well, if anyone thought they had a decent Eurovision entry this year, they can forget about it because the Queen of the Cheesy Ballad has returned. Yes, Bonnie Tyler is representing the UK for this year’s Eurovision.

Last year, they chose Engelbert Humperdinck as their entry, but this year, the UK have upped the ante with famed 80’s heroine, Bonnie Tyler. The 61-year-old Welsh singer who had a number 1 hit with Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983 will perform her track Believe In Me at the competition.

The contest will take place in Malmo in Sweden this year and we are really hoping that they will break everything out for the superstar’s return, ice machines, dodgy backing singers, ridiculously high shoulder pads and an 80’s mullet.

The track, Believe In Me, was recorded in Nashville and will feature on the star’s upcoming album.

The news of Tyler’s involvement in the competition comes after the announcement that Cascada will represent Germany with their song Glorious.

It seems to be clear that the Eurovision is becoming a stage for the cheesy stars of yesteryear. Well, we don’t think that’s a bad thing really… Another excuse to watch this at least!
