The album is topping the charts and a sold-out Irish gig is fast approaching… so here’s what you need to know about 2013 breakthrough act Bastille.
________________________
1. They’re no overnight success story. Bastille originated in London in 2010… but back then it was a solo project for singer-songwriter Dan Smith.
2. They’re not French… but the name does come from the French celebration of Bastille Day, July 14th. Smith likes to celebrate that day too, as it’s his birthday.
3. They’ve been on reality TV! Sort of. Bastille track ‘Flaws/Icarus’ featured on an episode of Made in Chelsea.
4. They’re videogame stars! Sort of. ‘Weight of Living’ was part of the soundtrack to FIFA 13.
5. There’s an Irish connection – Bastille spent January and February supporting Two Door Cinema Club on tour.
6. It’s all started to get very exotic… Bastille played their first gig outside of Europe late last year, with a December 2012 slot in Hong Kong!
7. They’ve gotten in on the vampire craze… Bastille track ‘Oblivion’ featured in an episode of swoon-some teen show The Vampire Diaries.
8. Single ‘Pompeii’ went straight in at Number 2 in the Irish charts when it was released last week. Nice.
9. It’s too late to get tickets to see their first Irish headline gig… Bastille will play The Academy, Dublin on April 4th… but it’s already sold out. We know, we’re gutted too.
10. It’s not too late to get the album. ‘Bad Blood’ is available in stores now, or you can download it from iTunes here.
