Sir Tom Jones has said that the level of talent on the upcoming series of The Voice UK is ‘sh*t’.
The legendary singer joins Ricky Wilson, will.i.am and newcomer Rita Ora on the judging panel of the talent show and at the launch, he raised a few eyebrows with his comments on this year’s contestants.
When asked about what viewers could expect from the show, will.i.am began to reply that “the talent this year is…” before Sir Tom finished his sentence by saying “s***!”
When asked by journalists about the remark, he added “It just slipped out. I hope it wasn’t a Freudian slip”.
However, he later backtracked and said that he was simply joking with the comments.
“When I said at the beginning … ‘s***’ and then I said later on, because it’s a joke and I like to joke, and I said ‘I hope it’s not a Freudian slip’, well that was a joke on top of a joke. So it was not a Freudian slip.”
“We have a great variety of singers, no copycats. There are some strong singers on there and they’re all different.”
Previous winners Leanne Mitchell, Andrea Begley and Jermain Jackman have failed to launch successful careers following their appearance on the BBC show.
