Chart-toppers JLS are calling it quits and splitting up after five successful years together.
The Sun broke the news just after midnight on Tuesday, stating that the four band members ‘agonised for months’ before deciding to call it a day and plan a farewell tour for fans.
JLS, which stands for Jack the Lad Swing, first hit headlines when they competed in the 2008 series of X Factor, where the finished in second place – losing out on the win to Alexandra Burke.
They were the first band to really enjoy chart success following the reality TV show, and with the sole exception of the runaway success story that is One Direction, remain the most popular band ever to emerge from the series.
In their five year career, the band have hit the top of the UK charts five times and sold over ten million records.
Speaking to The Sun, Aston Merrygold of the group said: “It’s just that time. We are still best of friends and always will be — but this is the end.”
His fellow band member Marvin Humes, who is married to The Saturdays singer Rochelle, is expecting his first child next month, spoke about being ready to move on to the next stage of his life.
The group have insisted there is no falling out, but that they wanted to call time on the band as their five year contract came to a close, instead of signing for another deal for three or four more albums.
JLS are planning a farewell tour in December, along with a greatest hits album.
