“It’s All Angela Merkel’s Fault!” Germany Isn’t Impressed With Their Eurovision Result

Lads, at least you didn't come last - that's all we're saying...

Uh-oh, it looks as though Germany isn’t exactly thrilled with their poor showing at the Eurovision. In fact, they’re so mortified by their result that they’re placing all the balme on Angela Merkel. Yep, apparently it’s all her fault (is she to blame for our crap result too?).

The Irish Independent reports that while Angela Merkel is popular in Germany for all the work she’s done for the euro zone crisis, in other parts of Europe she’s absolutely loathed. Hence, the Germans are convinced that their association with Angela is to blame for the fact that they didn’t get any points from 34 of the 39 countries that were voting in the song competition.

“There’s obviously a political situation to keep in mind – I don’t want to say ‘this was 18 points for Angela Merkel,’” said Thomas Schreiber, the coordinator of Germany’s ARD TV network.

“But we all have to be aware that it wasn’t just Cascada up there on stage (being judged) but all of Germany,” he added.

Cascada performed for Germany at this year’s competition

Demark eventually won the competition on Saturday night and Germany came 21st out of 26 countries. They recieved 18 points from Austria, Israel, Spain, Albania and Switzerland.

“It’s unexplainable,” said Peter Urban, ARD’s expert commentator on the event.

When asked if the poor result was because people didn’t like Germany, Mr Urban responded: “There’s some truth to that. There will be two German soccer teams in the Champions League final next week and maybe people didn’t want Germany to win Eurovision too.”

Germany, to be fair at least you didn’t come last. That’s all we’re saying…
