Ireland’s Eurovision Hopefuls Have Been Revealed

The country's Eurovision hopes will lie in the hands of one of these singers...

After weeks of searching and months of waiting, RTÉ have finally announced the five Irish acts who will battle it out to be the country’s representative in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden.

Before Christmas five mentors were sent out on a mission to find an act each that they believed could win the competition and now those singers (and their respective mentors) have been revealed.

Sweden won the contest last year and will host this year’s event.

They are Zoë Alexis Bohorquez (Niall Mooney), Ryan Dolan (Stuart O’Connor), Aimee Fitzpatrick (Mark McCabe), Inchequin (Shay Healy) and Kasey (Mairead Farrell).

The public will get to hear the five songs on RTÉ Radio 1 tomorrow from 3:00pm and will then get their say in who goes on to represent Ireland during The Late Late Show Eurosong which will take place on February 22nd.

Jedward represented Ireland in the competition last year.

Whichever act is chosen will then follow in the footsteps of Jedward and others to compete in the first semi-final of the song contest in May in the hope of bagging a place in the final held later that month.

And while it might be cheesy and regarded as a bit of a joke these days, we have to admit that no year would be complete without a night in front of the telly watching people from all over Europe jumping about and trying to sing.
