In Pictures: Electric Picnic 2013 Kicks off in Stradbally

Ireland's favourite festival is back...

Rebecca McKnight

The tenth annual Electric Picnic festival kicked off in Stradbally, Co. Laois, on Friday evening and both repeat visitors and festival newbies are currently partying up a storm in the midlands county.

Revelers across the country have been counting down the days to the end of summer highlight on Ireland’s festival calendar, and judging by early reports, day one of this year’s offering did not disappoint.

While My Bloody Valentine, one of the main attractions on Friday night’s calendar, left concert-goers underwhelmed, their lacklustre performance was more than made up for by the multitude of other, more enjoyable, options.

Fatboy Slim led the way in celebrations, headlining the main stage late on Friday night and introducing a ten-tier cake by way of celebrating the festival’s anniversary, and a beautiful firework display had campers staring in awe at the clear starry skies.
