Here We Go Again – Our Top Fifteen Guilty Pleasures Songs

We swear we don’t know the words to these... Wait. Is that Whitesnake?

Sue Murphy

During the week, we listen to the likes of Vampire Weekend and the Villagers but break out any of these numbers while we’re out at the weekend and we guarantee that not only will we know all the lyrics, we’ll generally know any dance routines that go with them too… Ok, fine. We sometimes listen to them midweek too.

1. Whitesnake – Here I Go Again

The ultimate driving song that everyone pretends they don’t know but everyone knows.

2. Bonnie Tyler- Total Eclipse of the Heart

Old School did wonders for Bonnie Tyler’s number 1 from the 80’s. Regardless, we still belted it out anytime a DJ played it at any event.

3. Meatloaf – You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth

Any of Meatloaf’s gems would have done the trick here, but this is an office favourite…

4. Aqua – Barbie Girl

You could not get away from this song when it was first released, now you go mental when it gets played everywhere.

5. Whigfield – Saturday Night

First dance routine, in the bag. If you don’t know it, you always pretend you do anyway.

6. One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful

Even the greatest music snobs find it difficult to dislike this particular pop anthem… It’s just so bloody catchy.

7. Los del Rio – Macarena

Dance Routine Number 2 and a wedding party staple.

8. Five – Everybody Get Up

Oh, and you knew the rap too, didn’t you?

9. Steps – Tragedy

We know it was the Bee Gees but we think they came with a certain amount of credibility. Don’t get us wrong, we love this song…

10. Abba – Waterloo

The original masters of the cheesy pop songs, Abba were the perfect blend of pop brilliance and really good music. We just don’t believe you if you say you don’t like them…

11. A-ha – Take On Me

Firstly, because of that video. Secondly, because of that intro. Enough said.

12. Heart- Alone

No. You are lying to yourself, you cannot reach the high notes for this chorus.

13. Justin Bieber – Baby

We caught you, on the bus, listening to Justin Bieber. You thought no one could hear you, but everyone could hear it. It was blaring. And you were bopping your head.

14. Britney Spears – One More Time

You know this song was rejected by TLC? Maybe it would have been more credible, maybe we wouldn’t have liked it half as much though!

15. Toto- Africa

Does anyone actually know the words to this besides “down in Africa”? No, we don’t either. But we’ll sing along like we do.
