From Dublin to Detroit – Boyzone Announce Motown Album

Rebecca McKnight

Boyzone are going back to their beginnings.

Back in 1996 the Dublin five-piece hit the chart, clad in orange jumpsuits, with a cover of The Four Seasons’ Working My Way Back To You Babe. Now, almost twenty years later, the band are revisiting Motown for a full themed album.

Dublin To Detroit will be the follow up to last year’s anniversary collection BZ20, which sold 250,000 copies.

Dublin To Detroit is due out on November 21st on East West Records.

The new album will see the Boyz take on classics like  The Supremes’ You Can’t Hurry Love; Jimmy Ruffin’s What Becomes of the Broken Hearted; Jackie Wilson’s Higher and Higher; and Reach Out (I’ll Be There) by The Four Tops.

Boyzone performed a Motown Medley at the MTV Music Awards at Alexandra Palace in 1996, and then kept it as part of their set during their A Different Beat tour later that year.

The band said: “We feel very lucky to have been given the chance to record such an amazing collection of songs for our new ‘Dublin To Detroit’ album. We could easily have done eleven more great tracks from that era but we hope there’s something for everyone in the choices we made. We now just can’t wait for the chance to perform them live for all our great Boyzone fans around the world.”
