From David Bowie to Villagers: Presenting the Shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2013

The shortlist for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize has been revealed.

Along with legendary musician David Bowie, the list also includes Irish indie band Villagers who featured on last year’s Mercury Prize list.

“We are surprised and honoured to be nominated for the Mercury Prize with Awayland; we put a lot of love into this album and the attention that this will afford it is currently warming the cockles no end” said Conor O’Brien of Villagers.

Previous winners for the prize have included PJ Harvey, the xx, Antony and the Johnsons and Franz Ferdinand.

Villagers: Awayland

Last year’s winner was Alt-J. The prize ceremony will take place on October 30th at the Roundhouse in London.
