There’s an old saying that goes along the lines of ‘the only way to recognise pure talent is to see it in action’ and after watching this YouTube clip we can definitely say that Cornel Hrisca-Munn is a man who has some serious talent.
Cornel is a drummer from Romania who was born without arms. His story is incredibly heartbreaking. During the 40 years of Ceausescu dictatorship in Romania, any children who were born with disabilities were considered to be faulty and put in orphanages in the hopes that they would eventually die.
Due to his disability, Cornel was taken from his parents and put in one of these orphanages. Eventually his mam and dad managed to find out where he was, but they were so poor they were unable to take him home and care for him.
Cornel was left in the orphanage for 9 months until Doreen Munn, an aid worker, saw him and fell in love with him. She did everything she could to help him and eventually brought him home to the UK where she asked if anything could be done to improve his quality of life.
Cornel began his life with no opportunities but now his talent is turning heads. This video of him covering the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Can’t Stop’ has already gone viral and even managed to catch the attention of the band’s drummer, Chad Smith.
“Watching this guy has inspired me to get off my ass and go for my dreams,” said one YouTube user.
“This guy proves that anything is possible,” said another.
Cornel is currently a student at Oxford University. As well as the drums, he plays the bass and has won various awards for his fundraising on behalf of disabled children in Romania.
