Musician Bob Dylan has received France’s highest cultural award, the French Legion of Honour, in a ceremony in Paris.
Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti presented the musician with the award and spoke of his cultural importance, according to a BBC correspondent.
After the speech, Dylan said that he was “proud and grateful” and left.
According to the BBC report, one journalist who was at the ceremony noted that Dylan appeared to be “distinctly uncomfortable.”
The musician’s award was temporarily blocked this year after general Jean-Louis Georgelin who is the Grand Chancellor of the Legion, voiced his reservations of Dylan’s use of cannabis and his engagement in anti-war politics.
The award is presented to individuals who have served France in various ways.
