Better Than the Original: The Best Song Covers Ever

Doing a song cover can be risky but on these occasions it REALLY paid off...

Rebecca McKnight

There’s always a touch of scepticism when a singer reveals they are doing a cover of a well-known song.

And there’s nothing worse than a good song being done badly but there’s also nothing better than a good song being done really well.

Speaking of which, we have rounded up some of the best covers ever recorded and yes we do prefer them to the originals!

Skinny Love – Birdy (original by Bon Iver)

She might be young but 16-year-old Birdy definitely knew how to put her own twist on this Bon Iver hit.

Valerie – Amy Winehouse (original by The Zutons)

The late singer might be gone but her unique singing style will never be forgotten. And neither will this cover.

I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston (original by Dolly Parton)

Whitney Houston’s version of this ballad is so good that many believe she was the one who sang it first.

Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley (original by Leonard Cohen)

It’s a brilliant song which has been covered umpteen times but Jeff Buckley’s haunting rendition is undoubtedly the best.

You Make Me Feel So Young – Michael Bublé (original by Frank Sinatra)

From Home to Feeling Good, Michael Bublé is the King of good covers but his latest has to be our favourite.

Michael Bublé’s eighth studio album, To Be Loved, is out now. To see track listings or to order, click here.
