Is your job killing you?
It is the information that folk who like to ring into work sick have been waiting for…
A study has revealed that over 40 per cent of people feel their job has had a negative effect on their life in the last five years.
The survey, commissioned by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), found that over 50 per cent were eating more, 25 per cent consumed more alcohol and 10 per cent smoked more as a result of their working life.
43 per cent of employees admitted to exercising less or not at all.
Are you feeling a little over worked and under paid? You’re not the only one.
According to the results 60 per cent of people regularly do unpaid overtime, 20 per cent working more than five hour unpaid every week.
Over a fifth of those who completed the survey fear having a heart attack or developing a heart condition due to stress.
Lisa Young, spokesperson for the BHF said that survey “is a stark reminder of just what happens when we don’t take our health at work seriously enough”.
“Millions of people say they are smoking more, exercising less and putting on weight because they’re not considering the impact their job is having on their health and wellbeing”, she continued.
“Behaviours like these can be extremely damaging, not just to your heart health but also to businesses”.
Time to get out the stress toys, start taking short walks while on lunch and laying off the free treats in work.
Hat-tip to the Metro for this one.
