This is shocking.
A young woman has claimed that she was denied entry into a nightclub for being too fat.
Bobbi Jo Goldsmith was celebrating her birthday last Friday and booked a table at Libertine London nightclub with her friends.
The 20 year old, who is a size 10, said that when she and her friends arrived at the club they were told that they were ‘too big’.
Bobbi’s mum Deborah shared the story on Facebook to highlight the issue.
It reads:
“This figure is too big (my daughter in the image) and her friends were told by club Libertine London on Friday 30th September.”
Deborah went to describe the woman who said it to them:
“Promoter Carmelo was told by Layha the tall french women at the entrance of the club that this group of young ladies weren’t the look the club wanted and that they were to big in size (Dress size)”
She adds that it obviously made all the young girls upset:
“They were all made to feel dreadful pulled out from the queue and told to leave. The table and arrangements were all pre-organized it’s not like they just turned up… to be told your not the right look for the club and then when they ask what do you mean, to be told your to big in size and not good looking enough for the clubs ‘ image ‘ is discrimination and should not be tolerated.”
The post on Facebook has received a huge amount of attention and has been shared over five thousand times.
The Libertine Club sent a statement to the Mirror denying the claims.
“We would like to make it clear that, any assumptions or comments concerning the reason for not granting entry, certainly did not come from anyone employed or connected to us and are in no way reflective of our actual door policy.
“The club is nearly always over-subscribed and turning people away is commonplace for us and every other venue.
“On that particular night we had over 500 people through the doors and turned away 119 potential customers.
“Potential customers are given priority based on who they booked with. Members and house guestlist coming first, followed by the in house PR team and then freelance promotional companies and their sub-promoters.
“On any given night our club is filled with a diverse and inclusive group of people, which is something we pride ourselves upon. We would never reject anyone based upon their dress size or physical appearance.”
