She decided to get in touch with the police. They eventually returned the cat to her last week.
"The police were waiting with her when I came home from school with the boys – they were both really excited to see her again," Jessica said.
“She ran straight upstairs and sat in her favourite sink. She seems really happy to be home and completely fine.
“We regret the missing five months because we missed out on the whole kitten side of her. But she is still playful and racing around like a lunatic."
The man who found her, Andrew Stoner, said he had offered to buy Jessica another cat.
"We are not horrible people – we tried to do right by the animal."
