Last year, UK woman Chanttelle Ward was beaten by her then partner Rhys Culley.
Culley was five years her senior, and recounting the attack, Ward said he was jealous. In a row about Facebook, Culley bit deeply in Ward’s lip. Culley reportedly chased Ward around the house, punching and kicking the then teenager.
Ward was left with permanent scars on her face and bruising all over her body. Culley was jailed for 8 years for the brutal attack.
Now having made a remarkable recovery, Ward has won the Top Model of England Competition, which will see her feature in fashion shoots and receive industry mentors.
“The past will never go away but it has made me feel better about myself,” she told The Sun on Sunday.
“I hope it proves to girls, women and men who have suffered abuse that you don’t have to hide away.”
“I want to show other girls that have been in the same position to be strong and to not let something like that in your past change the future.”
