Woman faces backlash for her choice of event to announce her pregnancy

A woman has asked for advice about where she is considering to announce the news that she is expecting her second child. She has asked people if they think it is OK for her to reveal the exciting news at her friend's housewarming party. The general consensus is a big NO. In a post on Mumsnet, she said:

"Hi, I am pregnant with my 2nd child and I'm just wondering how to tell good friends. My friends are having a house warming as they just moved to a beautiful house and lots of our friends will be there but not just our friends, is it suitable to tell them then in person as I will be seeing them? .. I wouldn't want to take anything away from their house warming and their beautiful new house though....what would you do?. ...its either then or over the phone before then."

People were quick to tell her exactly how they felt on the matter:

"Congrats but it’s really just a big deal to you not for others. Waiting for their party is a bit precious." "It doesn’t need to be an “announcement” to friends. I know you say you’re close, but I bet at least one couple at the party is having problems conceiving. A party isn’t the best time for this." "Congratulations but as it's not your party to me it's not the right time even with it being a housewarming rather than a more personal occasion. It may be a big deal to them." "God, please don't. They're throwing a party to celebrate their new home; not to provide a convenient stage for you." "Why on earth would it overshadow a Party? Pregnancy is lovely but pretty unremarkable and people will wish you all the best and then move on..."

Some other people came to her defense and agreed with her:

"I don't see a problem with telling them at their house warming, in what way would your pregnancy detract from their event? I'm sure they'll congratulate you and then just get on with their party."
