She claimed it could ‘ruin’ her unborn daughter’s life.
A mum-to-be has left people stunned after she asked her friend to change her dog’s name – as she wants to use the same name for her daughter.
Screenshots of the messages – between the dog’s owner, Jennay, and the mum-to-be – were shared on social media earlier this week.
It all begins on a pretty innocently, with the soon-to-be mum writing:
“Hey Jennay, it’s [redacted]. I’m [redacted’s] wife, we met at Kolby and Blake’s christening. I’m pregnant again and that’s why I’m messaging you!”
Jennay sends her congratulations, before asking why she got in touch with her – which is when things took a bit of an awkward turn.
The woman – who is already mum to four boys – told her that she was expecting a girl this time.
Explaining that they had their hearts set on naming their daughter Tillie, the pregnant woman continued:
“It’s come to my attention you have a dog named Tilly. I’d appreciate you changing the dog’s name.
“Obviously she can’t have the same name as a dog and we’re bound to bump into each other.”
Jennay, understandably, declined her request – pointing out that she didn’t think it was necessary to change Tilly’s name as it was unlikely “anyone will notice they’ve got the same name anyway”.
But the mum-to-be wasn’t ready to let it go, ranting:
“I can’t express how I feel right now. I’m so disappointed and let down in you Jennay. People say you’re a nice person but I can see you have them tricked.
“You don’t have children you’ll never understand how a mother can love and just want the best for this perfect little person.”
She went on to call her “unreasonable” and “heartless” for not being willing to change her dog’s name.
The pregnant woman continued:
“You didn’t even consider changing the animal’s name for my daughter’s future. This is going to impact her life and potential ruin her confidence and life.
“Can you even imagine growing up having the same name as a mutt?
“You callously have put me in a terrible position. You are a piece of work and don’t deserve your good family.”
She ended the post by telling Jennay that that she was “ruining a babies life.”
And Twitter users couldn’t quite believe what they were reading.
“Just when you think you’ve seen it all,” one person wrote.
“Had the same problem when my son, Fido, was born. People can be so unreasonable,” someone else joked.
“Did anyone think how it impacts the dog’s life? Imagine a human stealing your name…Gosh….,” another person quipped.
