Holy moly! As a total movie buff I have been known to splash out on movie memorabilia (including an original porcelain Mrs Potts teapot).
I would usually say that owning a moment from your favourite film is priceless, but that’s until I noticed the price tag on this piece of history.
The dress worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz has sold for a whooping $1.56 million (€1.46m). The Bonhams auction house organized the sale, which saw 400 pieces from classic movies up for auction. The dress went to a phone bidder.
“It is one of only two complete Dorothy costumes in esxitence” said Catherine Williamson; Bonhams’ director of entertainment memorabilia.
It is a classic piece from one of the worlds most iconic films. The 1939 film won two Oscars and is still a firm family favourite.
Other items on the night included a suit worn by Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and a golden ticket from the original Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.
