Ladies, you might want to dig out your woolly jumpers because some brutal wintry weather is set to hit our little country over the next few days.

The Irish Daily Star reports that gale force winds are expected to lash the country from tomorrow onwards, before giving away to freezing conditions this weekend. Bad news if you’re planning on hitting the town this weekend, eh? We think we’ll be swapping our LBD for some leg warmers, a hat and a pair of fleecy gloves.

According to reports, Met Eireann has issued a storm warning for tomorrow, as winds are expected to reach over 100km/h. And we’re afraid it’s not good news because flash foods are also expected due to heavy rain and sleet sweeping across the country.

“Tomorrow will be a very windy day with a possibility of gales and storm force gusts in the west and north-west,” said a spokesman for Met Eireann.

“Wednesday will also be very windy with strong southerly winds gusting to gale force, while Thursday will be wet and windy with spells of heavy rain and strong to gale force southerly winds,” the spokesman added.

Temperatures are expected to drop as low as -2C this coming weekend

This coming weekend is set to be fairly chilly as temperatures are set to plummet by Friday, with early morning figures being as low as -2C.

“There is a high possibility of cold weather by Friday and the weekend,” said the spokesman.

Yikes! It seems as though winter is well and truly upon us. But cold weather is always a great excuse to cuddle up indoors – hey, we’re all about the silver linings! What’s your favourite thing about winter?
