Winner Alright! Can You Guess Which County has the Best Spuds in Ireland?

All Ireland's aren't just claimed on a September Sunday in Croke Park you know...

They might be still in contention for a GAA title but the Premier County have already claimed one win this year, as it seems the best potatoes in Ireland come from Tipperary.

Bord Bia held its annual All Ireland Quality Potato Championships at the Tullamore Show last weekend. The show, attended by 60,000 people, saw David Curran from Fethard in Tipperary crowned the champion.

According to Bord Bia, the competition is designed to "increase the level of awareness among growers of what constitutes a good quality potato".

Husband and wife Noel and Kathleen Higgins from Roscommon both received awards, coming in 2^nd and 3^rd place respectively while mother and son, Margaret and Michael McGoldrick from Leitrim also took home accolades.

It is estimated that a total of 9,800 hectares of potatoes are grown by approximately 540 growers in Ireland.

The winners as announced on the day include:

1^st  - David Curran, Moyglass, Fethard, Co. Tipperary

2^{nd  -} Noel Higgins, Ballydangan, Athlone, Co. Roscommon

3^{rd –} Kathleen Higgins, Ballydangan, Athlone, Co. Roscommon

4^{th -} Michael McGoldrick, Kilcoosey, Dromahaire, Co. Leitrim

5^{th –} Margaret McGoldrick, Kilcoosey, Dromahaire, Co. Leitrim

6^th - Michael Walton, Kilmacowen, Ballisodare, Co. Sligo
