Nothing brightens up a winter evening like a good bottle of wine and this week, we have the perfect treat whether you’re making dinner for the girls or chilling out with your other half.

2011 Domaine Felines Jourdan

Made By: Claude Jourdan runs this estate, which is located not far from Meze. The Domaine was started in 1983 by Claude’s mother and uncle. The Grenache and Carignan vines date back to then, and some of the Picpoul comes from 50 year old vines from her grandfather’s vineyard about 20 kilometres away.

The vineyard runs down to the Bassin de Thau lagoon, where oyster and mussel beds remind us of Bantry Bay.This explains the superb affinity of her Picpoul de Pinet with shellfish. The moisture- laden breezes are perfect for growing grapes, and keep the temperatures a good five or six degrees lower than vineyards only a kilometre away.

This cooling influence gives lovely fresh fruit flavours to the wines, and is one reason that Claude uses no oak for any of her wines, as to do so might mask their freshness. It also illustrates the importance of the location of the vineyard and how it influences the wine.

Tasting Note: This white is packed with both flavour and character. It is a delicious blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne, giving this wine lively, rich flavours of melons and apricots. Dry but with heaps of ripe fruit!
