Westport has been unveiled as Ireland’s favourite town in a recent survey by Retail Excellence Ireland.
The poll, in which over 15,000 people took part, was published in the Sunday Independent today and saw the Mayo town claim the top spot.
Westport House is one of the many attractions of the town.
As well as its tourist attractions, Westport also has a number of shops and restaurants which helped it to claim victory. Towns were also rated according to their standards of safety and family friendliness.
Killarney came in second in the survey with Swords, Ashbourne, Malahide, Galway and Carlow also making it into the top 25 list.
Killarney narrowly missed out on the title.
The Chairman of Retail Excellence Ireland, Keith Rogers, said: “We need to demand that our towns have the right ingredients with a suitable mix of convenience, grocery, fashion, health, eateries, public houses and entertainment to ensure citizens are engaged with their civic space and in turn they then support their local town.”
