We’ve all been there.
Sometimes when your with your mates, or work gals we can get a bit overly-optimistic.
Deciding with your BFF on a night that quitting your jobs and opening a vegan-friendly glitter gelato shop is the best idea in the world probably isn’t – but you go down that road anyway.
And then there’s the gals that you went to school with. You all meet up one day and think you’re life is a resemblance of The Hills, but instead of playing it out on TV you want to create a podcast instead. Such a good idea.
Except, it’s not. And you won’t. You’re not going to quit your job and you’re not going to create a podcast because you probably won’t see those girls again until Christmas 2021.
The optimism is gone when you wake up the next day and reality takes its place.
But is being overly-optimistic a good or bad trait to have?
This study which was published in the Journal of Economic Psychology saw that wishful thinking can affect your decision making when it comes to finance, management and entrepreneurship.
And while it may be good on those fronts, we still need to be cautious with it in our day to day lives.
“Our findings have potential implications for the design of information interventions since how agents incorporate information depends on whether the bias is ego-related,” the study states.
However, no matter what the study says we all know what’s viable in our own lives. What may be a dream for some, others can make a reality… and it all comes down to drive and determination.
