There was some fantastic news in Dublin this afternoon as the IRFU announced that Ireland has won their bid to host the 2017 Women’s World Cup.
IRFU Chief Executive Philip Browne confirmed that World Rugby has officially chosen the Emerald Isle as tournament hosts.
“We’re delighted with today’s announcement,” said he said.
“Interest and participation in women’s rugby continues to grow and building this momentum we believe Ireland can deliver the best Women’s World Cup to date.”

The IRFU had revealed back in March that they were hoping to bring the tournament to Ireland.
Ireland came fourth in last year’s World Cup which was held in France, and recorded a memorable and historical victory over New Zealand on the way.
The talented team are also current Six Nations champions.
