The Africa we see on charity billboards, posters and advertising is very different to the experience many volunteers have when they travel overseas to give a helping hand.
Images show third-world conditions that appear depressing, lonely and vacant of any real hope. The reality is very different and one Film & Broadcasting student wants to highlight how African life is much more colourful than those emotive advertisements makes out.
Wells for Zoe is a Dublin based humanitarian organisation that works closely with Dublin Institute of Technology and sends students willing to make a difference to Malawi each year.
The main goal of the charity is to provide the necessary elements to self-sufficient living.
Each year a group of students from the college embark on a volunteering trip that involves agricultural, educational, irrigation and farming projects.
DIT student Alison Sheehy shot a short film in her time there and in the video titled ‘Malawi – No Place I’d Rather Be’, she depicts a vibrant country full of life, passion and happiness.
