True crime fans will really like this…
After the TV adaptation of Tana French’s internationally bestselling Dublin Murder Squad novels was announced, the initial attention was focused on the Love/Hate reunion of Killian Scott and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
However, in recent months, Sarah Greene has been extremely impressive in the likes Rosie, Dublin Oldschool, and Black ’47 and the talented actress is at the fore of The Dublin Murders, a new psychological crime thriller for BBC One, Starz and RTÉ.
Scott (’71, The Commuter) and Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful, Rosie) play detectives Rob Reilly and Cassie Maddox in the show, while amongst a host of excellent Irish actors in the cast are the aforementioned Vaughan-Lawlor, Moe Dunford and Ian Kenny.
The eight-part series was created and is written by Sarah Phelps (And Then There Were None; Ordeal by Innocence) and blends the first two novels of French’s crime series, In the Woods and The Likeness, to deliver a dark psychological mystery that taps into Ireland’s past, foreshadows the future and brings insight to its present.
Set during the height of the Celtic Tiger financial boom, it will focus on two murder investigations led by ambitious and charismatic detectives, Reilly and Maddox.
The victims – a young talented ballerina who is found dead on an ancient stone altar and a vivacious free-spirited woman who is found stabbed in a roofless famine cottage – are seemingly unrelated, but as viewers will discover, are actually knitted together by powerful shared themes.
At present, no official launch date has been set but here’s a look at what’s in store.
