Want A Better, Healthier Relationship? Start ‘Poking’ Your Fella On Facebook

Believe it or not, Facebook can actually improve your relationship...

Could a happy, healthy relationship be as simple as giving him the auld ‘poke’ on Facebook every now and then? Eh… yes apparently.

According to a new study by a University in Western Illinois, couples who interact with each other regularly on Facebook are actually happier in real life. Yes, we found it slightly hard to believe as well, but Professor Christopher Carpenter says that users who upload more pictures of themselves and their other half and who regularly tag their partner in posts, report closer, more fulfilling relationships offline.

Oh and the less you interact with your man on Facebook, the less closer you’ll be in real life.

We better start uploading all those coupley pictures on our computer…

Professor Carpenter’s research goes against previous studies which blamed the social networking website for everything, from jealousy to a lack of communication within relationships. So is Facebook a good influence or a bad one when it comes to our love life?

“I think that Facebook has the potential to be both. If people see their partner interacting with others on Facebook, they get jealous. But, if they themselves tag their partner regularly, then they aren’t jealous of their partner’s interaction with others,” said Professor Carpenter.

The Professor said that he believes the site helps couples to “get closer” because it allows them to make contact with their other half “in small doses.”

So there you have it. If you want to strengthen your bonds with the object of your affections, it might be worth heading over to his Facebook page and leaving him a comment (or stepping it up a notch and ‘liking’ every single status update he posts).
