A Canadian woman was forced to film herself having a stroke after doctors told her that the symptoms she was experiencing were just the result of stress.
Stacey Yerpes was driving when she began to feel the tingling sensation that had been troubling her. She pulled over and recorded herself while describing what was happening so that she could show doctors the footage.
“The sensation is happening again,” Stacey tells the camera. “It’s all tingling on left side… I don’t know why this is happening to me.”
According to CNN, two days previous to the recording, medical staff at Stacey’s local emergency room dismissed her face numbness and slurred speech as a result of stress.
Stroke tests were carried out however after coming back negative, the 49-year-old was shown breathing techniques to help improve her condition before being sent on her way.
The recorded footage was then used to help doctors at Toronto Western Hospital diagnose Stacey with ‘transient ischemic attacks’ (also known as ‘mini-strokes’) due to plaque build-up in her arteries.
In an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp, Stacey explained her reasoning behind the video: “I think it was just to show somebody, because I knew it was not stress-related.”
“And I thought if I could show somebody what was happening, they would have a better understanding,” she continued.
