Limerick girl and horse enthusiast Shellie Murtagh has released a charity single in aid of The Shellie Project and Milford Hospice.

The song, entitled Blue, aims to raise money and awareness for The Shellie Project which is a project she developed to advance services for children with special abilities on the autism spectrum. The idea came about after she met a young man who changed her life.

“I had been breaking in and training horses whilst at the same time getting experience working with people on the autism spectrum,” Shellie explained. “I encountered one boy who was considered un-teachable yet was totally at ease with horses.

“I started to realise the potential of interacting with this boy using horses and equine skills as the basis for a special type of therapy.”

But that’s not where her aspirations end. She also wants to develop a national primary school devoted to children with special abilities.

“I really believe my way of working can present a whole new methodology when it comes to educating children with special abilities in a more appropriate, interesting and enjoyable manner with the aim of providing a better quality of life,” she said.

“It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to release a single and the release of Blue not only fulfils that ambition but gives me a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for my own charity whilst supporting Milford Hospice, a cause close to my heart.”

Blue is available now to download from iTunes here. Proceeds go to The Shellie Project (for more information click here) and Milford Hospice.

Also want to say a huge thanks to Darragh Curtin and Eamon Murtagh (Shellie’s father) for getting in touch with us.
