Unknown Number: Five Calls You Won’t Want To Get At College

Her

The college year is practically upon us and so it is your time to shine…

With new faces, new names and new found freedom, comes new phone numbers in your mobile contacts.

While we’re all for adding to the contact book, there are a few calls you may want to avoid through the college year.

Here are our top five that bring back unwanted memories.

The Landlord

After weeks of searching, you’ve finally found the perfect place. Hurrah! Now, try to keep up a healthy relationship with your landlord. Pay rent on time, honour all bills and try not to cause too much of a disturbance with your neighbours.

We’re not suggesting you live the quiet life but just remember, parties can escalate from time to time. We all saw Project X… The landlord is one name you don’t want appearing on your phone. Trust us.

Gardaí

The ultimate phone call fear. No one EVER wants to receive a call from an Garda Síochána. EVER.

Head of Year

Yes, believe it or not, just because you’re not being monitored quite as closely as you were in your school years, your university likes to keep a watchful eye over your progress, particularly the Head of Department.

No one has 100% attendance (we’re all guilty of taking a day off here and there) but if your participation drops to below average, expect to hear about it. When you filled out those forms you provided contact details and lecturers are not afraid to use them.

Mum and Dad

You’re finally out of the nest but you still feel under obligation to check in with your parents and you should.

You might not appreciate it but it is difficult for every parent to watch their cubs grow up to be independent adults. When your father looks at you, he still sees his little girl. It sounds clichéd but it’s the truth… We’ve watched Father Of The Bride and movies never lie.

Just make sure that your mum and dad aren’t forced to get in contact because you’ve provided your home telephone number to one of the above as a point of contact. ALWAYS ANSWER. Do not let them worry. Your life simply will not be worth living if you avoid their phone call(s). Just know they’re phoning because they love you.

Unknown Number

After a few nights out in succession, there is nothing that strikes the fear of God into a person quite like receiving a string of calls from an unknown number… It could be any of the four listed above.

Ain’t nobody got time for a private caller.
