U2 have cancelled concerts that were due to take place in Paris tonight and tomorrow night.

The iconic Irish band, who played shows in the French capital on Tuesday and Wednesday last, released a statement on the matter.

“We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city” read the statement issued on behalf of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen.

American channel HBO had planned to broadcast tonight’s show live and there was also an RTÉ broadcast planned for later on this month.

This evening, the four band members visited the makeshift shrine set up for the 129 victims of last night’s tragic terror attacks.

The shrine is located near the Bataclan theatre where eighty people were massacred by Islamic terrorists at an Eagles of Death Metal gig.
